Safier's arguments usually wind up fortifying the status quo. While school teachers who cannot be fired for poor performance in major cities continue to receive pay checks and destroy the integrity of public education, Safier and his crowd tell us tenure is fine....after all....they do the same thing in little Finland. A teacher who has tenure or not is still entitled to due process litigation in event firing is being considered. Reforms of tenure are needed because many teacher unions in major cities have abused the system, but Safier would prefer nothing worthwhile be done. Tenure is not a sacred right...most jobs do not have automatic tenure.
