John Flanagan: Robin Williams made a choice between living and dealing with his personal issues, or ending his life. He chose the latter. A person who entertains the idea of suicide and accepts it as a valid solution will eventually carry it through. Any amount of psychotherapy and counseling will not stop a person intent on considering or carrying out suicide. John Belushi claimed he paid 500 dollars per visit for weekly appointments with a psychologist, yet he still managed to continue in destructive behavior and overdosed on drugs. Is it worthwhile to exhaust all efforts at intervention? Of course.....but in some cases....the decision to die by one's own hand may win over the will to live. However, advances in medication today can certainly help seriously depressed individuals......and faith in God will help many people.
