Next month, the Town of Oro Valley will mark its 40th Anniversary since incorporation in 1974. What began as a small community of 2.4 square miles and a population of 1,200 has grown to a thriving town of 36 square miles and more than 41,000 residents. The town has grown, but we’ve also maintained a focus on core values and services.

We are home to global bio-science and high-tech companies like Sanofi, Securaplane and Ventana Medical Systems, a member of the Roche Group. Bloomberg Newsweek named us the 2013 Best Place to Raise Kids in Arizona, and Movoto Real Estate placed us on the 2014 Top 10 Safest Suburbs in America.

There is much to celebrate

The first of three events, a Dinner and Silent Auction, to benefit the Oro Valley Historical Society, will be held at the Oro Valley Country Club on April 18. Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased by calling 297-1121.

The 40th Anniversary Celebration at Steam Pump Ranch will be held Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free, family-friendly event includes live entertainment, food trucks, a “Fun Zone” for children and cultural/historical programming and tours.

Additionally, if you attend the April 26 Celebration at Steam Pump Ranch, you can pick up a free pass for the 40th Anniversary Family Day at Catalina State Park on Sunday, April 27.

In addition to special events, the town launched three campaigns to get the entire community involved.

40 Days of Deals

Century Theaters, Dunkin Donuts, Hilton El Conquistador County Club, Noble Hops, Oro Valley Bicycle and 17 other Oro Valley Businesses have partnered with the town for a 40-day countdown to the big celebration at Steam Pump Ranch on April 26. Each day, March 15 – April 25, Oro Valley businesses will offer special deals to customers. To view the 40 Days of Deals calendar, visit www.orovalleyaz.gov and click on the 40 Days of Deals banner.

40 Never Looked So Good

Each Monday, through April 21, the Town publishes a video short featuring a member of the Oro Valley community, including local high school students, Oro Valley Chief of Police Daniel Sharp, Oro Valley Hospital CEO Jae Dale, Ventana Medical Systems CEO Mara Aspinal, Mayor Satish Hiremath and more. Be sure to check us out on Facebook and YouTube so you can see what these residents and community leaders are saying about life in Oro Valley.

Life in OV student art

The town also hosted the “Life in OV” art, photo and multimedia contest for students in grades K-12. The contest, which closed on March 14, was an opportunity for Oro Valley’s youth to showcase their unique perspective on life in Oro Valley. Of the 119 entries, winners in each age group will be announced at the April 26 celebration at Steam Pump Ranch.

If you’re not cashing in on the daily deals and following the action on Facebook and Twitter, you’re missing out. There is still time to plug into the celebration, with 35 more days of deals and three great events planned for April. It’s a great time to be in Oro Valley, where 40 never looked so good.
