According to multiple news reports this morning, Janet Napolitano, the secretary of Homeland Security, has resigned in order to take the lead role at the University of California.

Napolitano, who has served as President Barack Obama's homeland security secretary since the beginning of his first term, is expected to leave the agency in about six weeks, when the school’s fall semester begins.

In a statement, Napolitano called her role leading DHS “the highlight of my professional career” and said that the 240,000 employees of the department have “worked together to minimize threats of all kinds to the American public.”

“After four plus years of focusing on these challenges, I will be nominated as the next president of the University of California to play a role in educating our nation’s next generation of leaders,” she said.

Ariz. Sen. John McCain released a statement about Napolitano's decision to resign.

"Janet Napolitano has served our nation with honor over the last four years as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security – one of the toughest and most thankless jobs in Washington. We have had our share of disagreements during her time as Secretary, but I have never doubted her integrity, work ethic or commitment to our nation’s security. The people of Arizona can be very proud of our former Governor’s service, and I wish her all the best as she assumes leadership of the nation’s largest public university system," McCain said.

It is interesting how inept politically connected Democrats always manage to find another high paying position after they screw up their last job.
