Northwest area Santa Catalina Council of the Knights of Columbus recently was named Arizona council of the year.

The Knights of Columbus, a Catholic men's charitable organization, has more than 13,000 councils and more than 1.7 million members worldwide.

The Santa Catalina group was chosen for its outreach and charitable accomplishments, including establishing a $1,000 scholarship for Immaculate Heart High School students, organizing blood drives, providing assistance for the Outreach Pregnancy Center and provided volunteers to help with local Special Olympics events.

The Santa Catalina Council was established 10 years ago and boasts more than 100 members.
