On Sunday, Aug. 29, Oro Valley police responded to the 8800 block of Oracle Road in response to a resident seeing a person spray-painting walls within the apartment complex. When police arrived, they were able to detain multiple suspects who possibly defaced walls at the apartment complex and a homeowner's wall on Shadow Mountain. One of the suspects said, "I did it, they had nothing to do with it," according to police reports. The leasing agent on duty provided officers with photos showing the suspect spray-painting the wall. The suspect was booked into the Pima County Jail for criminal damage. The case will be forwarded to detectives to see if the suspect can be connected to previous graffiti incidents.

On Tuesday, Aug. 24, Oro Valley Police, Golder Ranch Fire Department and Southwest Ambulance responded to a house fire on the 1400 block of East Rams Hill Drive caused by a lightning strike. The residents told police that at about 5 p.m., residents knocked on their door telling them their house was struck by lightning and smoke was coming from the roof. A nearby house was evacuated during the incident. The damage is estimated between $30,000 and $50,000.

On Saturday, Aug. 21, at about 6 a.m., Oro Valley police responded the 11th green at the Hilton El Conquistador Cañada golf course in reference to suspicious activity. When police arrived, they noticed four people lying on the green, under a blanket, laughing and giggling. Police also noticed a glass pipe near the suspects. Police told the group of teenagers, who were ages 15, 18 and 19, that they were trespassing. The suspects told police they were waiting to take pictures of the sunrise. One suspect admitted to smoking marijuana while the other three told police they did not smoke any. The three were released and not charged with any violation but were told they would be charged with trespassing if they were caught on the golf course again. The suspect who admitted to smoking marijuana was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and released.
