A 14-year-old Marana High School freshman has completed a CD, and she is dedicating proceeds from a debut party this Saturday to charity.

Kailey Carranza spent the past year dedicating her free time to her debut album, "Singing for a Cure."

From 2 to 4 p.m. this Saturday, June 6, she'll sell copies of the CD at Foothills Mall, in front of the Barnes and Noble entrance, with money benefiting the Leas Foundation for Leukemia Research.

The event is free, open to the public and intended to bring awareness to the fight against leukemia.

The Lea's Foundation for Leukemia Research, Inc., is a nonprofit that provides support for blood cancer research efforts. It dedicated $1.25 million to create the Lea's Foundation Center for Hematologic Disorders, opened in 2007 as a center of excellence for research and world-class care for patients with benign and malignant blood disorders including sickle cell disease, bleeding and clotting disorders, leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and others.

With a $15 donation, guests receive the "Singing for a Cure" CD and a raffle ticket. The ticket will be entered into a drawing for several items.

"This is a great opportunity for anyone who would like to encourage the youth to go out and give back to the community," a release said. "Every teen has the ability to donate time."

Carranza, known for her dedication to help those less fortunate, had help from local producers Billy Joseph and Steve Lojik H&H Beat Factory, and sponsor Cathy Chavez of Long Realty.
