A no-host picnic and rally for public education is planned Sunday, April 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Canada del Oro Riverfront Park in Oro Valley.

Citizen and parent organizations from the region are kicking off a statewide campaign, Join Hands for Public Education, according to a release from Concerned Arizona Residents for Education.

Local officials and legislators have been invited to attend.

Members of the Wilson School choir and jazz band are performing at 1 p.m. Sunday.

At 2 p.m., a program includes the singing of Harelson fourth-grade student Riley Redhair, remarks by representatives of the Arizona Education Association, the Southern Arizona Leadership Council, the University of Arizona Student Association, CARE and the Arizona Education Network, and comments by students.

CARE is collecting non-perishable food donations for local food banks.
