Selection of a community member to fill an opening on the Oro Valley has been rescheduled from last week to Wednesday, June 9.

Councilman Barry Gillaspie and interim Councilwoman Mary Snider requested the delay, and the item was pulled from the June 2 agenda.

"We felt that it would be beneficial to the process if we waited," Snider said.

Because of the number of people who applied for the open post, Snider said the council wanted more time to make a decision. In addition, with four new council members seated at the June 2 meeting, Snider said the extra time would give the new members, herself included, a chance to study the applicants' qualifications.

Since opening the appointment to applicants, the town has received resumes from 19 people. Among them are former Oro Valley Mayor Paul Loomis and former council members K.C. Carter and Helen Dankwerth. The appointment is needed to fill the position vacated by Salette Latas, who resigned from the council in April. The appointee would serve out the final two years of Latas' term, expiring in June 2012.

Wednesday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., at which time the council likely will call for an executive session to discuss the issue. After the closed session, the council then could vote to make the appointment or postpone the issue to a later date.

Regular council sessions are held on the first and third Wednesday of the month. Meetings are held at Oro Valley Town Hall, 11000 N. La Cañada Drive, at 6 p.m.
