The second of three forums for candidates running in Marana’s mayoral race and for two seats on the Marana Town Council is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Heritage Highlands at Dove Mountain, 4949 W. Heritage Club Blvd.

Marana Chamber of Commerce and the Heritage Highlands Civic Group sponsored the event.

Bret Summers has challenged incumbent Ed Honea for the job of mayor. Summers has indicated he may drop out of the race because of family issues, but has not submitted anything to the Marana Town Clerk’s office to officially terminate his candidacy.

Candidates David Bowen and Jeffrey Gray are running for council seats along with incumbents Russell Clanagan and Roxanne Ziegler.

A candidate must receive 50 percent plus one of the votes counted at the March primary election to win a seat outright. If that doesn’t happen, candidates will face a run-off vote in the May 17 general election.

Voters will also be asked to vote on Marana’s General Plan in May. Initiatives, referendums and recalls, if any are filed, may also be placed on the May ballot.

Council members chosen at either the primary or the general election will take the oath of office after the canvass of the general election vote.

A final candidate forum is scheduled for Feb. 3, at the Wheeler Taft Abbett, Sr. Branch Library, 7800 N. Schisler Drive from 6 to 8 p.m. The Marana Chamber of Commerce and the Metropolitan Pima Alliance sponsored that event.

All events are open to the public. For more details, call 682-4314.
