Monsoon gardening is the subject for guests at a Tohono Chul Park event on Saturday, June 6.

Greg Corman of Gardening Insights discusses water harvesting, summer planting techniques and "the amazing variety of hot-weather species that make it worth sticking out the summer here," a release said.

"Winter visitors think they're avoiding the worst of Tucson by leaving for the summer, but we true desert lovers know they miss the best part – the monsoon," the release continued. "One of the benefits of staying for the stormy season is the amazing variety of plants that burst into bloom and attract clouds of birds, butterflies and other critters."

Metro Water is sponsoring the event, which begins at 10 a.m. that Saturday in The Education Center, classroom 1 at Tohono Chul Park.

Cost is $4 for members, and $8 for the general public.

People may call 742-6455, extension 0, to reserve their space.
