Tohono Chul Park will be the setting for "Creative Horizons: Native American Children's Art," an exhibit of artwork by children from kindergar¬ten to high school borrowed from the collection of the Native Education Alliance.

Traditional and contemporary work by Pasqua Yaqui, Tohono O'odham, Gila River Pima, White Mountain Apache and Navajo students will be displayed.

The exhibit will run from June 10 through July 27 in the Gallery at the Park, 7366 N. Paseo del Norte.

On Saturday, June 12, a reception will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon, when Jerry Carlyle, vice chairman of the San Xavier District of the Tohono O'odham Nation, will perform a blessing in honor of the occasion.

The Native Education Alliance encourages students who show an interest in art by holding con¬tests, exhibiting their work and providing gifts of art supplies so they can continue their artistic growth. The Alliance is comprised of Native American parents, students and educators who strive to embrace Native knowl¬edge and culture and strengthen Native students and families through lifelong learning.

Each summer Tohono Chul Park presents artwork by local school children to support their bud¬ding talents. This is the first time the Park and the Native Education Alliance have part¬nered their efforts.

Tohono Chul Park is known as the desert corner garden, where nature, art, and culture connect through educa¬tional programs, art, cultural exhibits, nature trails, gardens and special events. For more information on the Park call (520) 742-6455 or go to www.tohonochulpark.org.
