Oro Valley’s new constituent services coordinator, Pat Klein, took over the post in February after former coordinator Sue Novelli departed.

The Tucson native spent 22 years working for former Congressman Jim Kolbe.

After Kolbe retired, Klein went to work for County Supervisor Ray Carroll.

Q

 What attracted you to

 this job?

A

I have been a public servant for my entire career. I hope that the local experience made me a better candidate for this experience.

When I saw this position, I though it had my name all over it.

Q So far in the job, have you been able to resolve any issues for people that you are particularly proud of?

A Each time we see new issues in the portal, that’s a success because it’s showing that more people are aware of it. It’s a great tool. It’s all about the openness of the town, the transparency and openness.

Q Do you see any challenges with the job?

A

The challenges are, when you’re at this position in public service, when you listen to people’s requests, to get to the heart of the situation. There are issues that the town can’t resolve.

Q

What possibilities do you see for the future of this position?

A

It’s important to be really part of the community, and you do that by going to public meetings, neighborhood meetings and HOA meetings. The learning curve is steep, but people who do constituent services are generally generalists, and I think I’m a generalist.
