On Sunday, Sept. 5, at about 3:30 a.m., an Oro Valley officer inside the police substation at Oracle and Magee roads heard a female calling out for help outside. When the officer went outside, he saw a Circle K employee yelling. The officer jumped over the wall and was told by the employee that there was a male suspect in the store behind the cash register. The officer looked inside and saw a man placing multiple cartons of cigarettes inside a trash can. After notifying communications, the officer went inside the store with a Taser in hand and told the suspect to put the trash can down. The suspect said, "OK, you got me. I am not going to run or fight," according to police reports. The suspect was handcuffed and the officer did a wants and warrants check. Communications told the officer the suspect had an extraditable national marshal's warrant. The suspect was arrested for shoplifting. In the trashcan, police found 31 cartons of cigarettes valued at $2,197.90.
