Habitat for Humanity Tucson is dedicating the Ransom family home in Marana on Friday, Nov. 20.

The home, built through a partnership with the Town of Marana called "Marana Builds Habitat," was started in April. It's the first Habitat for Humanity Tucson home located within Marana's town limits.

"The Marana community has shown great enthusiasm and support for this Habitat build," said Michael McDonald, Habitat for Humanity Tucson executive director. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to expand our reach and help a local Marana resident achieve the dream of homeownership."

The Ransom family — Brian and Roberta along with their three children, ages 11, 8 and 3 — are looking forward to the home's completion, a release said. The couple has completed 400 hours of "sweat equity," a basic tenet of Habitat for Humanity. They'll also repay a no-interest mortgage over a period of 25 years, illustrating Habitat for Humanity's objective to give families a "hand up" not a "hand out." Habitat for Humanity Tucson works to end poverty housing "by building safe, decent and affordable homes for deserving local families," the release said.

"We're very excited," said Brian Ransom. "Getting this home will be a great thing. The kids will benefit the most."

Habitat Tucson plans to begin construction on a second Habitat home in Marana in 2010.
