Marana Rotary Awards Dinner

Updated

Three residents and an organization were honored by the Town on Thursday night for their efforts to improve the community.

Patrick Nilz (individual) and the Arizona Youth Partnership (organization) earned the Branding Iron Award. Ray and Faye Spitzer were honored with the Ora Mae Harn Crystal Legacy Award. The accolades were given during the Marana Rotary Club’s Annual Awards Dinner at The Highlands at Dove Mountain.

Nilz is a local business owner and president of the Marana Heritage Conservancy. He leads the group that organizes Founders’ Day and lends his tractors, farming equipment and hot-air balloons for use during Town events. His efforts are opening the door for future generations to appreciate the Town’s history through educational programs and the upcoming Heritage on Wheels project.

The Arizona Youth Partnership focuses on helping families in the community, working to form strong family units that communicate openly and support each other. The organization helped open the tuition-free Open Doors Community School in Marana. The organization has organized fundraisers and events that bring the community together, including a softball tournament next month that will use many of their partnerships with local companies, organizations and individuals.

The Marana Rotary Club also honored its Man of the Year (Emil Tompkins), Woman of the Year (Julee Baxley), Educator of the Year (Marana Middle School teacher Linda Fox) and Student of the Year (Marana High junior Elijah Barnett).
