In the first eight days of the fiscal year, which started July 1, Pima Animal Care Center has saved 346 pets, primarily through adoptions and through rescue partners.

That’s up from 243 at this time last year.

But as fast as they are finding homes, more are coming in the back door.

In that same time period, they've taken in 639 pets. And that’s just eight days into the fiscal year. It’s also much higher than the same time period last fiscal year, when they had received 556.

PACC don’t know what is driving the increase, but they do know that it’s become a truism that when the monsoon comes, they're swimming in cats and dogs. So if you’re thinking of adding to your household, PACC has a great selection right now at a great deal.

For this weekend only, all of PACC's pets will be available for a special adoption rate of $13, which includes all vaccinations, microchip, and spay/neuter surgery.

For the remainder of the month, the $13 special will apply to adult cats and to dogs over 40 pounds. That adoption fee still includes shots, microchip and sterilization.

The adoption center, at 4000 N. Silverbell Road, is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Come see if you’ve got a friend waiting here for you.

And don’t forget to look at some of our older pets up for rescue. The rescue group Tucson Cold Wet Noses has offered to pay for basic bloodwork, dental work and alterations as needed for senior dogs over the age of 5 and dogs with some medical needs. Please see our adoption counselors for more information.
