Election Day no longer has the same meaning with more and more voters taking advantage of the early-ballot option.

Early voting for the Nov. 6 General election officially started on Oct. 11, and the Pima County Recorder’s office said plenty of residents have decided to get an early start on choosing candidates.

The Recorder’s office estimated about 250,000 ballots went out on the first day, and another 45, 000 were mailed out on Oct. 12.

“This first wave beats the previous record of vote-by-mail ballots for Pima County, set in the 2010 General Election at 247,464,” said Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez.

Residents can order a vote-by-mail ballot until Friday, Oct. 26.

“The ballot for this election is very lengthy,” Rodriguez said. “With every voter having over 40 items to select, including candidates, 9 statewide propositions, 22 judge retentions and bonding issues, depending on your jurisdiction. Voters should take their time voting their ballots. This is one of the advantages of using a vote-by-mail ballot.”

For more information, log onto the Recorder’s office website at www.recorder.pima.gov. or call the Pima County Recorder’s office at 724-4330. Out-of-town residents may call 1-800-775-7462 and ask for extension 4330.
