The six winners have been chosen to take on the Anytime Fitness Challenge.

The three residents taking on the challenge at the Oro Valley location on Oracle Road include John Miller, Erin Brittain and Catherine Reynolds.

At the Marana location, Pamela Maldonado, Jesse Morales and Sara Summers will be looking to get fit for the next year.

The winners were selected from a pool of 78 Explorer readers who submitted an application online.

The six winners will receive a one-year membership at the participating Anytime Fitness clubs and free personal training during that same 12-month period. The prize is valued at $3,500.

Now that the winners have been selected, it's time now to start the process toward meeting the goals they outlined in their applications.

Miller, a Pima Community College instructor, said, "I would love to motivate others to improve their health, diet and lifestyle. After 12 years of teaching here in Tucson, I enjoy thousands of Tucsonan acquaintances, on which my influence toward fitness could be beneficial."

Brittain said she is a stay-at-home mom with seven boys, four of which were adopted and have special needs.

"My husband is a teacher, so our income is limited," she said. "I want to get fit and healthy so I feel better and look better. I want to be active with my boys."

Reynolds said living a healthy lifestyle and feeling comfortable in her own body has been a struggle.

Summers also wants to get fit for her children.

"If I were chosen for this opportunity, it would give me a chance to be the mother my daughter deserves," she said.

Morales said he has always been overweight, and now is looking to be able to live life to the fullest.

Maldonado comes into the one-year challenge as a single mom of an 11-year-old "energetic" boy.

"I want to get healthy," he said. "I am ready and motivated. I just need the opportunity to get there. I think that convenience is a huge factor. Being that Anytime Fitness is open 24 hours will make it a lot easier."

Anytime Fitness has been opened in Marana, but the Oro Valley location on Oracle road just opened on Monday, Dec. 12.
