Statement from Governor Brewer remembering our fallen firefighters

Posted

In commemoration of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend (Oct. 4 – 6, 2013) and Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 6 – 12, 2013), and in accordance with Public Law 107-51, Governor Brewer has ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset, Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013.

Statement from Governor Jan Brewer

“Every October, Americans take time to honor our nation’s brave firefighters and first responders. The tribute this year, of course, is especially poignant for Arizonans. In June, we lost nineteen brave wildland firefighters to the deadliest wildfire in state history. These elite Granite Mountain Hotshots, along with all of the men and women of our fire and emergency services, are heroes. They perform a selfless, inherently dangerous job, daily risking their lives in defense of perfect strangers and property. And, while they do not seek glory or gratitude, we owe it to them eternally.

“In honor of all of our state and nation’s fallen firefighters – and those who continue to courageously serve – I have ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset, Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013. I encourage all Arizonans to join in this tribute.”
