On Saturday, Oct. 12, Oro Valley held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the relocation of the Oro Valley Farmers Market to the historic Steam Pump Ranch, 10901 N. Oracle Road.

Previously, the Farmers Markets were held at town hall. Last season the market averaged 30 vendor stalls and more than 700 customers each week. With the relocation, town staff expects to see an increase in those numbers.

“With the drive-by traffic along Oracle Road, we think participation will skyrocket,” said Oro Valley Communications Administrator Misti Nowak. “That was something we didn’t get as much of along La Canada, so we think the move will not only be beneficial in that regard but also in allowing people to see a piece of Oro Valley history in Steam Pump Ranch.”

Steam Pump Ranch is a 15-acre historical site representing a living piece of the history of Oro Valley’s settlement, and it has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

“Our Saturday Farmers Market is extremely popular,” said Mayor Satish Hiremath. “We’re excited to bring this successful event to Steam Pump Ranch, where we can utilize this historical property and build on the synergy of other programs there, including Second Saturdays, public art tours, and the concert series.”

The Oro Valley Farmers Market is held every Saturday. Winter hours are 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
