According to Tucson Police Department, on July 14, 2013, officers from Operations Division West responded to a report of a fight at the Seasons Apartment Complex located at 811 East Wetmore Road. Upon arrival, the officers located signs of a recent party but no active fighting. No victims or witnesses to a fight were located and no one at the apartment complex reported seeing or hearing a fight.

Approximately ninety minutes later, two victims, who reportedly had been involved in a fight, arrived at a local area hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

One victim suffered a broken jaw and the other victim had a broken nose and dislocated hip. Per their standard protocol, hospital staff notified the Tucson Police Department and an officer responded to the hospital. Upon arrival, the officer connected the victims to the earlier fight call at 811 East Wetmore Road.

The victims, whom are both black males, made allegations that the assault upon them was racially motivated.

The Aggravated Assault Unit responded to continue the investigation. Detectives aggressively investigated the incident over a period of two and a half weeks, identifying some of those involved in the assault as well as witnesses who were also present at the party when the incident occurred.

Due to the possibility that the incident was racially motivated, federal authorities were consulted as this complex investigation unfolded.

On August 2, 2013, detectives arrested 21-year old Robert Henkel and 21-year old Taylor Ray in connection with this incident. Both were booked into the Pima County Jail for two counts each of Aggravated Assault.

Booking photographs are not yet available. The investigation into this incident is ongoing and the Tucson Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact 911 or 88-CRIME.
