Marana Run a success, money raised for student track

There was an abundance of support demonstrated at the Marana Run/Walk 2013 Family Wellness Fair on Saturday, March 2, when more than 400 runners and a number of sponsoring vendors arrived to raise awareness about fitness and the increasing problem of childhood obesity. 

Every runner and walker who finished either the 5K or 10K was the recipient of a medal. Marana Town Manager Gilbert Davidson and Mayor Ed Honea were among those present for the event.

The event, brought about after a partnership between the Marana Chamber of Commerce and the Marana Unified School District, saw about twice the number of participants as it did last year.

As a result of the overwhelming support, enough money was raised to install a track at Estes Elementary School. The track will be used to benefit the school’s Miler’s Club, made up of a group of students, staff, and faculty who chart miles run or walked each year.
