The Marana Police Department teamed with the Drug Enforcement Administration and Pima County April 30 to give the public an opportunity to properly dispose of potentially dangerous expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs during the second National Prescription Drug Take-Back at sites all across Arizona, including the Target store at Ina and Thornydale.

The proper disposal of prescription and over-the-counter drugs is an emerging environmental issue. As with any household waste, the disposal method chosen can affect safety and the health of the environment. The event also helps prevent drug abuse.

Last September, Arizonans turned in more than 6,200 pounds of prescription drugs at nearly 75 sites operated by more than 33 of DEA's state and local law enforcement partners.
