Marana High School teacher Cassie LaFaye and Susan Rich, of Mountain View High School, have been selected as finalists for the Arizona Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Circle K Corporation Outstanding High School Faculty Awards.
The program honors outstanding high school teachers in Southern Arizona.
LaFaye was recognized at the pre-game ceremony at the Arizona Wildcats/Oregon State men’s basketball game on Thursday, Jan. 12.
Rich will be recognized at a pre-game ceremony at the Arizona Wildcats/Colorado men’s basketball game on Feb. 9.
On Friday, Feb. 24, both teachers, along with seven other finalists, will be honored during a banquet at the University of Arizona / Jim Click Hall of Champions, where the Teacher of the Year will be announced.
LaFaye teaches Chemistry, Science of Technology, and Freshmen Foundations at Marana High School.
LaFaye is the lead for both the Marana Academy of Science and Technology and the Freshman Academy where she plays an integral role in developing curriculum and collaborative lesson units.
In addition to dedicating time to tutoring students, LaFaye is the coach for the Pom/Color Guard team, the Science Olympiad team, and the sponsor for the Cube Club.
Rich teaches Physical Education at Mountain View High School.
As the Student Wellness Advocacy rich sponsor and the Health and Medical Sciences Academy Student Leader Advisor, she leads students in using their voices to create meaningful changes in their school and community.
Rich also has an active role in both of her leadership positions as the department chair and as academy core team facilitator where she continues to improve student learning.
