Canyon Del Oro vs. Catalina Foothills The Canyon Del Oro Dorados improved to 4-3 Thursday night, after a big third quarter pushed them past Catalina Foothills.

With most high school football games being played on Thursday night this week, the Dorados traveled to Catalina Foothills.

Catalina Foothills and Canyon Del Oro came into the game with .500 records, both sitting at 3-3. With the playoff picture coming into focus, every game counts and every team is aware of the stakes.

After leading 8-3 at halftime, the Dorados were able to capitalize on two turnovers in the third quarter to take a 27-11victory.

With the victory, the Dorados are now ranked 13th in Division II of the Arizona Interscholastic Association power ranking with 25.02 points.

Ironwood Ridge, also in the Amphitheater School District, has the highest ranking in the area at fourth place with 29.69 points. With only three games left in the regular season, the Dorados will look to improve to secure a spot in the post season. On Friday, the Dorados will travel to Tucson High to take on the Badgers.

On Oct. 21, the Dorados will host Marana, and on Oct. 28, they will close the regular season against Amphitheater. Ironwood Ridge vs. Mountain View The Nighthawks got back to their winning ways Thursday night, dominating Mountain View 42-0.

The Nighthawks are now 6-1 for the season, standing at fourth place in AIA rankings. The Nighthawks’ only loss came against Centennial. With three games left, the Nighthawks look well positioned for a playoff birth, but it’s the final game of the season that will be a big test.

On Oct. 28, the Nighthawks will face third ranked Salpointe Catholic. In the meantime, the Nighthawks have two away games, starting with Flowing Wells this week, and Catalina Foothills on Oct. 21.

For the Mountain View Mountain Lions, the road to the playoffs is getting tougher as they dropped their fourth straight game Thursday night.

Sitting at 24th in the state rankings, the Mountain Lions will face Catalina Foothills, Flowing Wells and Cholla in the final three weeks of the season.

With only the top 24 teams making the playoffs, the Mountain Lions will have to get back into winning to earn a spot.
