Northwest Fire District along with the Marana Police Department responded to Twin Peaks Road and the I-10 interchange after a single vehicle crash just after 3 p.m. on Sept. 4.

When they arrived, they found two 17-year-old victims of the crash after the Chevy Camero struck the exit ramp retaining wall of the eastbound exit ramp of Twin Peaks.  The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Twin Peaks Road when it lost control, crossed over the median into westbound traffic and struck the off ramp wall.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt suffered critical life-threatening injuries and the passenger who was wearing a seatbelt suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries were both transported to the trauma center at UAMC.

The driver of the car was pronounced deceased after arrival at the emergency room.  The passenger remained in stable condition at UAMC throughout the afternoon.  No updates on his condition were available.

The Marana Police Department continues their investigation into the cause of the incident.  Names of the victims were not released, as they are juveniles.

Northwest Fire and Marana Police urge everyone to use seatbelts at all times.  This incident is a very clear indication that the message of seatbelt use truly makes a difference in the potential outcomes of serious auto accidents.  These outcomes can be the difference between life and death!
