Next week, Oro Valley residents will begin receiving ballots in the mail where they will be asked to choose between six candidates running for Town Council.

The final day to register to vote was Feb. 6, and ballots will be sent in the all-mail election on Feb. 16.

In an effort to get more information out to the public about the six candidates running for the three seats, Sun City Vistoso will be hosting a forum on Saturday, Feb. 18. The forum will be held at 1495 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd. in the Sun City Social Hall from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Organizers of the event said they are hoping residents will hold onto the ballots for a few days before voting, at least to get a little more information in what has been a generally quiet election.

Candidates recently filed the first round of campaign finance reports, but there was very little activity, with most of them staying between $500 and $1,000.

Councilman Steve Solomon had the highest amount reported in contributions at $1,100, which he reported as a personal loan to his campaign.

Councilman Bill Garner and candidates Fred Narcaroti, Mark Napier, Brendan Burns and Mike Zinkin also submitted reports, but all were less than $1,000 in contributions and expenditures.

In this month’s Primary Election, all six candidates could potentially move on to the General Election if none of them receives the required number of votes to be elected outright.

To be elected in a Primary Election, a candidate must receive 50 percent plus one of the total ballots cast.
