Twelve Pima Community College students have been named to the 2014 All-Arizona Academic teams for Phi Theta Kappa Society.

“The College community is extremely proud of these scholars,” said Dr. Zelema Harris, Acting Provosts. “Their academic achievements reflect their hard work and determination, as well as the quality instruction provided by our faculty.”

This year, a total of 73 community college students from around the state earned the honor, which is based upon academic achievement, leadership and service to the community.

Nine of the PCC students are transferring to the University of Arizona, two to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and one to Arizona State University in Phoenix. The honorees’ areas of study vary from cultural anthropology to international business management and marketing (For details, see the accompanying chart.

All PCC team members receive scholarships from the College, as well as two-year Arizona Board of Regents tuition waivers for any Arizona public university. All are eligible for selection to the All-USA Academic Team. The All-Arizona selections were honored during a luncheon Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Hilton Phoenix/Mesa, 1011 W. Holmes Ave., Mesa.

The Alpha Beta Chi chapter at Pima Community College is the largest PTK chapter in the Arizona region. Miranda Schubert, a Student Services Advanced Specialist for the Pathways to Healthcare Program, is its lead advisor. Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,250 chapters on college campuses in all 50 state and other countries. More than two million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 100,000 students inducted annually.
