People from across the Tucson area are asked join in the “Tucson Has a Heart” celebration as a show of community.

Attendees can participate in the formation of giant heart on the baseball field at Hi Corbett Field in Reid Park, on Sunday, Feb. 13.

About 12,500 people in white and red shirts are needed to form the shape of a heart while a helicopter circles overhead to take photographs. Any overflow crowds will be allowed to sit in the stadium stands.

Event organizers say it would show the community spirit generated following the Jan. 8 shooting that claimed six lives and left many others wounded, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Attendees are asked to park in the northeast corner of the El Con Mall parking lot, at 3601 E. Broadway. Free shuttles will be available to take people to the stadium.

Gates open at 11 a.m.; the photos are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

The event is free, but people are asked to bring canned food items for the Community food Bank.
