Northwest Fire District (NWFD) is pleased to announce an event to celebrate the receipt of a $23, 800 grant from the non-profit Public Safety Foundation associated with Firehouse Subs restaurants. Grant funds will be used to enhance to NWFD’s Training Facility with the addition of an “Incident Command Simulation Center” that uses computer training equipment to create virtual fire scenes.

The Simulation Center offers firefighters a chance to practice “running command of an incident,” or directing the efforts of responding units and crews, in the same manner that they practice putting out fires at the Northwest’s Training Facility, located just off I-10 near Ina.

Through the grant, the District was able to purchase the required software and hardware to breathe life into the Simulation Center and will begin to incorporate these technology-assisted fire scenarios into upcoming lesson plans for NWFD and its regional partners.

A ceremony to recognize the opportunities afforded by the grant will be held at the Firehouse Subs located at 3860 W. River Road on Monday October 29th at 2:30pm.

Firefighters, apparatus and equipment, descriptions and images of the Simulation Center’s key assets, and staff from Firehouse Subs will be on hand for the event. NWFD training staff will be available to answer questions about the simulation equipment and the impact it will have on firefighter and community safety.
