Fall monsoons are not stopping work to expand, pave and reconfigure local roadways. Drivers can expect delays and even road closures, and should seek alternate routes through the end of the month. They also should use extra caution when approaching a work area or a wash during a rainstorm.

Marana is fortunate to have no major road projects at this time. However, several are under way in Oro Valley and its surrounding areas. The projects include:

La Cañada Drive, between Ina Road and Calle Concordia

The good news is that roadwork is moving another step closer the targeted completion date of fall 2011.

Pima County Department of Transportation, the Regional Transportation Authority and contractor KE&G Construction on Aug. 15 started the final paving on La Cañada Drive between Ina Road and Calle Concordia with rubberized asphalt.

The schedule for the next two weeks is as follows:

Through Aug. 19, crews are paving with rubberized asphalt along all the turn bays throughout the project’s limits. Paving work is being performed daily between 5:15 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The east side of Calle Concordia was closed early Monday morning for paving.

On Aug. 18-19, between 7 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday, crews will pave the intersections of La Cañada at Hardy/Overton and at Magee.

On Thursday, the intersection of La Cañada/Magee will close starting at 7 p.m. while crews pave the intersection. Motorists will be detoured to alternate routes. That intersection will re-open to traffic Friday at 1 a.m.

At that time, the intersection of La Cañada at Overton/Hardy will be closed while crews pave the intersection. It will re-open to traffic by 7 a.m.

On Aug. 22-26, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction of La Cañada from Ina to Calle Concordia while crews perform the final paving with rubberized asphalt.

Motorists should expect delays and are reminded to obey the 25 mph speed limit through the construction zone.

The schedule may change due to inclement weather.

Lambert Lane, between La Cañada Drive and Pusch View Lane

Construction will begin Aug. 22 to widen this 1.5-mile stretch of Lambert Lane to a four-lane divided roadway and replace the water main. The roadway work includes furnishing all labor, materials and equipment necessary to reconstruct the existing two-lane Lambert Lane. Work will be overseen by the Town of Oro Valley.

Road features include slope stabilization, cross drainage facilities, storm drain, irrigated landscaping, striping and signing, medians, sidewalk, multiuse path and installation of public art.

The water main replacements include the installation of a 16-inch water line, an 8-inch water line, and other connections and appurtenances.

The contractor is Eagle Rock Excavating. The town estimates the project will be completed in spring/summer of 2013.

Magee Road/La Cholla Boulevard

Last Monday, Pima County Department of Transportation, the Regional Transportation Authority and contractor The Ashton Company changed the traffic control signals on Magee Road at La Cholla Boulevard while crews constructed the northern section of the road.

The signals at the intersection of La Cholla Boulevard and eastbound Magee were replaced with a three-way stop sign. This traffic control will remain in place until late fall.
