Marana hosting free tree workshop

Posted

Marana and northwest Tucson residents who want to know more about caring for or planting trees will have a chance to learn from experts at a free workshop Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Sponsored by the Arizona Community Tree Council, Tucson Electric Power, Tucson Clean & Beautiful/Trees for Tucson and the Town of Marana, the half-day workshop is being held at the Wheeler Taft Abbett Library (7800 N. Schisler Drive).

The goal is to assist homeowners in caring for and maintaining healthy trees. Attendees will learn about tree biology, choosing the appropriate location for planting, picking a healthy tree at a nursery, planting and caring for young trees, and pruning and irrigating established trees. Speakers are experts in tree care and urban forestry. TEP is donating door prizes for attendees.

The first three hours of the workshop will be indoors. The last hour will bring participants outdoors for pruning and planting demonstrations.

The workshop is free, but advance registration is requested. Visit www.marana.com/recreation or call (520) 382-1950 for more information or to RSVP. Walk-ins will be welcomed.

The Arizona Community Tree Council was established in 1989 to promote the benefits of planting and maintaining trees appropriate to the rural and urban environmental settings in our state and to facilitate information exchange in urban forestry. The organization coordinates with statewide partners on community education and volunteer efforts as well as professional training in arboriculture and related fields.
