While gas prices seemed to hold steady through the summer months, it appears the cost is creeping up in Tucson.

According to AAA Arizona reports, crude oil has exceeded $100 per barrel for the first time since May.

Earlier this month, Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona, said, “Given the recent spike in oil prices, it’s only a matter of time before Arizona fuel prices change direction. This couldn’t come at a worse time for drivers, as we are in the peak of the summer travel season.”

According to the website, the average cost of gas in the Tucson region currently sit at $3.35 a gallon. The national average is currently $3.66 a gallon.

According to the report, one week ago, gas prices in Tucson averaged $3.34 a gallon. Now, they are creeping up more than 10 cents.

The cheapest gas in town appears to be on the northwest side, with ARCO, located at 2790 W. Ruthrauff Road, selling gas for $3.25 a gallon.

AAA reported that Tucson and Flagstaff hold the low and high state fuel averages at $3.23 and $3.69 per gallon.

South Carolina and California hold the lowest and highest average prices for the lower 48 states at $3.19 and $3.98 per gallon.
