Do you know people who helped pioneer the northwest area? Author Barbara Marriott, Ph.D., is looking for nominations of historical families and friends from Marana, Oro Valley, SaddleBrooke and Catalina for her upcoming book, “Legendary Locals.”
Marriott needs to fill the book with 100 pictures of people who lived locally or passed through and left their mark. Some of the celebrities she’s looking for are Linda McCartney, the late wife of musician Paul McCartney; actor Lee Marvin when he lived in Oro Valley; and Hollywood actor D.C. Warren, who lived in Marana.
“We’re looking for ranchers, cowboys, people who are historically significant, and not sites or buildings,” said the SaddleBrooke woman.
People who would like to submit images can email digital pictures to Marriott at Bbarb3@aol.com. She also will be happy to scan and return pictures to those who only have hard copies of their photos.
Marriott solicited the public’s assistance for her earlier book, “Images of America: Oro Valley.” The SaddleBrooke woman also wrote “Outlaw Tales of New Mexico,” for which she received first place in the Arizona Press Women 2008 awards; “In Our Own Words,” which was a 2009 finalist in the non-fiction category of the Arizona Book Publishers Association awards; and “Myths and Mysteries of New Mexico.”
Marriott would appreciate hearing from people by the end of this month in order to meet her publishing deadline.
The book will be published by Arcadia Publications. It is expected to be in bookstores by mid-2012.
