Marana’s Galloway family’s situation is exceptional in that the family has not only adopted numerous children, but the children come from very unique and difficult backgrounds involving drugs and mental disabilities.

For those interested in fostering or adopting, children are only placed into families that are a match for a family’s comfort and willingness.

Adopting and foster care agencies like Christian Family Care, which the Galloway family uses, offer connections and training, along with resources for those wishing to adopt or foster a child.

According to ConnectOneNow.org, there are currently more than 14,000 children in the Arizona foster care system. There are 408,425 children in foster care in the U.S. Of those, 107,011 are waiting to be adopted.

There are more than 600 children statewide who wait in care with a legal plan of adoption but currently have no identified family interested in adopting them.

Nearly 70 percent of teens age 13-17 remain in a shelter or a receiving home for more than 21 consecutive days.

On average, a child with a case plan goal of “adoption” in Arizona spends 27 months in out-of-home care and averages three different home placements. The national average is 25 months.

Last year approximately 700 youth aged out of foster care without a permanent family connection in their life.

In 2010, 52,891 American children were adopted domestically with public agency involvement.

The total estimated number of orphans worldwide is 153 million.
