native to Marana, Del Post the Deputy Town Manager, was honored by the 40 Under 40 group for his hard work and service to the community.

The 40 Under 40 program recognizes local professionals for going above and beyond before the age of 40. Two Marana employees were chosen this year.

After high school, Post entered into the Eller College at the University of Arizona, where he received a degree in finance.  During college he worked at Bank of America and in his sophomore year he got married.  Upon completion of his degree he moved to Missoula, Mont. for the sake of wanting to move to a new place.  While there he decided to attend law school, something that had been thought of but not quite pursued.

“I knew I wanted to be involved in things like politics and I like policy,” said Post.  “Law school had always appealed to me but it’s not like I come from a family of lawyers.  So for me it was a foreign thing and kind of just happened.”

After that he practiced law for five years until being told of the open Deputy Town Manager position in Marana.  Post had at one point interned for the legal department in Marana and worked with Gilbert Davidson, the Town Manager, and Frank Cassidy, the Town Attorney.  Because of that internship, Post felt confident to apply for the job where he could work alongside the same people.

“I just fell in love with the place and people in a different way even though I’m from here,” said Post about the Town of Marana.

Post became the Deputy Town Manager in 2011.  His salary is around $127,000.

In this position, Post oversees the affairs of five different departments: parks, police, clerk’s office, technology services and community development.  He also works with legal issues, human resources and closely with the town manager.

In spite of how busy he is, Post finds that he doesn’t necessarily see the job as a job, but more as a part of his lifestyle that he loves.

“It’s super challenging and it stretches me in ways that I could never imagine,” said Post. “But I enjoy it.”

As for being named as part of the 40 Under 40 group, 35-year-old Post felt humbled and honored by such an award and said that working for Marana has been a great experience.

“It’s very personable because I’m from here and I like the fact that I can serve my community,” said Post.

(Editor’s Note: Next week, read about Laine Sklar, who was also recognized.)
