A nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) is scheduled for this Wednesday, Nov. 9, at noon. The test will be broadcast over radio and television stations statewide, and will last approximately three minutes.

While the public has experienced the tests of the broadcasting system in years past, this is the first time the system will be tested simultaneously nationwide.

Citizens are warned that it is only a test and to not call 911, despite the relatively long duration.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department will work in collaboration with federal, state and local agencies to test the emergency system this Wednesday.

During an actual catastrophic event, authorities will transmit crucial information to the public through as many methods as possible.

The national EAS program provides the nation with an unparalleled communications network, available even under the direst conditions.

The PCSD reminds the public that this is a good time to establish an emergency preparedness kit and emergency plan for themselves and their families and businesses.
