Shopping for a healthy way to have fun? People in Northwest Tucson need look no further than Sunday’s Healthiest Town in America, a free fair featuring more than 50 health care professionals from all across the region as well as kids’ activities and a 5K fun walk/run.
It will take place in the south parking lot of Oro Valley Hospital, 1551 E. Tangerine Road.
“Healthiest Town in America offers a lot for everyone. We’re pet friendly with a lot of different things going on, like Zumba, yoga and Pilates, and a kids’ obstacle course,” said event coordinator M.J. Jensen.
“We will also have a nice array of healthy food vendors, where people can buy and sample foods like gluten-free pizza and gluten-free cupcakes,” Jensen said, adding that six food vendors are expected to participate by offering food for purchase or to sample. “They allow people to try things they normally wouldn’t get a chance to try.”
Healthiest Town in America takes place twice a year – in the spring and fall. This is the first year that the 5K fun walk/run, a spring staple, will be held in the fall.
“It’s the right thing to do in the fall. The weather is good, it’s popular and this event really stands for everything Healthiest Town is all about – getting out and moving,” Jensen said. “Since it’s a fun walk/run, anyone at any age can do it.”
Registration for the walk/run starts at 8:30 a.m. The event begins at 9 a.m.
A free yoga class will follow at 9:30, and the official vendor fair starts at 10 a.m.
