The Pima County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics and Special Investigations Section has been conducting a long term investigation into contraband that has been smuggled into the Pima County Jail facility. Detectives developed information that has led to the arrest of Corrections Officer Arturo Martinez, 32.

Martinez was arrested and charged with five counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, a class 5 felony. In addition, two Pima County inmates were charged with Promoting Prison Contraband. 33-year-old Roberto Zavala was charged with 3 counts and 31-year-old Jose Ramon Ortiz was charged with 2 counts. Detectives learned that a cellphone, solar phone charger, and other contraband were smuggled into the facility. The investigation continues and additional arrests may be pending.

Corrections Officer Martinez is on unpaid leave pending his termination.
