Catalina Foothills baseball standout Luis Gonzalez has announced that he will continue his career at the collegiate level. Gonzales committed to the University of New Mexico on Monday.

Gonzalez announced his decision via his twitter and Instagram accounts and also indicated that former  Empire and current Salpointe player Donny Sands would be joining him at New Mexico.

Gonzalez, an outfielder and pitcher, is hitting .487, with 41 runs scored and 27RBI’s. As a pitcher he has a 3. ERA and has struck out 49 batters in 34.2 innings pitched.

Gonzalez also batted over .400 as a junior and over the summer was named MVP of the Junior Sunbelt Classic in McAlester, OK.

His Falcons baseball team  advanced to the second round of the Division II baseball tournament agter beating Cienega 7-5 on Saturday.
