Interested in understanding the geologic evolution of the southwestern United States?

Pima Community College, the University of Arizona and EarthScope are proud to host a lecture by Mousumi Roy, Ph.D., on April 24, “Magmatic Activity: How It Relates to the Southwestern United States.”

  • What: “Magmatic Activity: How It Relates to the Geologic Evolution of the Southwestern United States”
  • When: 1:30 p.m., April 24
  • Where: Pima Community College Northwest Campus (Bldg. D, Room 201), 7600 N. Shannon Road
  • Information: 206-2131

The lecture is geared toward the public – no previous knowledge in geology is necessary. Actually, you might want to know – if you don’t already – that the formation and movement of magma is fundamental to the growth and evolution of continents over time, especially in the southwestern U.S.

“Dr. Roy is a very thoughtful and careful scientist, especially adept at explaining complicated subjects in simple ways,” said Noah Fay, a faculty member in Pima’s Geology Department.

Roy is a faculty member at the University of New Mexico and a member of the 2013-14 National Science Foundation-funded EarthScope Speaker Series. She holds a doctorate in geophysics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
