Pima Community College's Louis Carlos Bernal Gallery announces its first exhibition of the 2013-2014 season, FACULTY EXHIBIT, featuring work by Mariana Carreras along with Joseph Dal Pra, Matthias Düwel, Patti Gardiner, Greg Loumeau, Barbara Jo McLaughlin, Christina McNearney, Ann Simmons-Myers, Michael Nolan, Claire Park, Reinhard Pawlicki, Stephen Romaniello, Nancy Spaulding, Michael Stack and Hiro Tashima. A gallery talk is scheduled for Sept. 19 at 2 p.m., followed by a reception from 5–7 p.m.

The exhibit is under the direction of gallery director David Andres. It is the first time since 2001 that the full-time visual and digital arts faculty, from all the PCC campuses, is exhibiting together at the Bernal Gallery. Andres comments, “I wanted to raise the awareness of the talent that abounds in the arts faculty at Pima, many who have exhibited their work nationally and internationally. I also wanted to foster an appreciation and understanding among the students and community members of the different mediums represented in their work.”

The featured artist for this exhibit is Carreras, chair of the visual arts department at the Downtown Campus. She teaches drawing, painting, understanding of visual arts and design. Carreras grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay. Her paintings integrate symbolic choices from cultures around the world. She adds, “I am a transplant and a child of four generations of immigrants—many worlds and many mysteries…I resonate with a rich and complex set of global symbols.” Carreras has taught at Pima since 1999 and received the Outstanding Faculty of the Year Award in 2012.

Other visual and digital arts faculty exhibiting work are: Dal Pra, sculpture (West Campus); Düwel, painting (Northwest Campus); Gardiner, digital illustration (West Campus); Loumeau, digital illustration (West Campus); McLaughlin, sculpture (Desert Vista Campus); McNearney, painting (West Campus); Simmons-Myers, hand-manipulated photography (West Campus); Nolan, painting (West Campus); Park, fiber art (West Campus); Pawlicki, sculpture (West Campus); Romaniello, painting (West Campus); Spaulding, fashion design (West Campus); Stack, painting (East Campus); and Tashima, ceramic sculpture (West Campus).
