The Matt Mitchell Group for this concert is the Hot Club of Tucson performing Django-style Gypsy Jazz at the highest level. Joining Mitchell is Evan Dain on the upright bass, and Kelland Thomas on alto saxophone, world class performers in their own right. This is an opening act that will turn up the heat.
For the second half, Eric Hines and Pan Dulce take the stage. His ability to solo on the Steel Pan is remarkable. The transcendent sound of the pan is associated with the laid back style of Jamaican music, but in Hines hands, it is like the searing saxophone solos of Sonny Rollins. Joining Hines are the very best of Tucson's Latin percussionists, with Danny Brito, Aaron Szabo, and Robin Horn. Taking this all-star group to the next level are Sly Slipetsky on keyboards, Brian Hicks on tenor sax, and Mark Usvolk on bass.
The concert start at 7:00 PM with doors opening at 6 PM. Chairs are provided and it is open seating. Food and beverage will be available at the Park.
