For those who may be spending the next couple months in the desert heat, places like the Oro Valley Aquatic Center and Breakers Water Park will help.
The Oro Valley Aquatic Center will begin offering beginner to advanced swimming lessons starting June 2. Parents can sign their child up for 10 total classes that will run twice a week for a month. Each class is 25 minutes long and has three to four students, which helps the instructor provide more one-on-one help.
After each lesson, parents will receive reports on their child’s progress, a more thorough write up halfway through the month and a final swim lesson certification at the end.
Classes this summer will run Monday and Wednesday, June 2 - July 2, and Tuesday and Thursday, June 3 - July 3. Also, 10 classes will be offered from May 31 - Aug. 9 (closed July 5) on Saturdays.
The cost is $120 per 10-class session with the additional $15 annual registration fee per child. For information, visit orovalleyaz.gov, or call 288-5865.
In Marana, Breakers Water Park offers a day of water slides, a wave pool and a splash pad for children. The Riptide is a 52-foot-high slide that is known for its speed and steep drop.
For those wanting a less intense ride, the Bonzai Pipeline, which has five slides, is available for those wanting twists, sharp turns and speed. Two of the slides are open-air slides while the other three are tunnel slides.
One of the top attractions for children and adults of all ages is the wave pool. With more than 1.3 million gallons of water, visitors can take a swim or relax on a tube. The children’s splash pad, better know as Captain Kidd’s Surface, includes splashing pools, slides and sprayers.
Currently, Breakers is offering a one-day VIP passes for $17.95, which is a $6 savings off the normal price.
Also available are season passes, which are $52.95. Breakers Water Park offers free parking, food and beverages, shaded areas and immediate access to safety and first aid.
