Camping, like many Y programs, is about learning skills, developing character and making friends.  But few environments are as special as camp, where kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group as they engage in physical, social and educational activities. Camping teaches self-reliance, a love for nature and the outdoors, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character and leadership—all amidst the fun of campfires, bugle calls, canoeing, archery, talent shows, and meaningful relationships. Y counselors are dedicated to making sure camp is an amazing experience.

Y’s offer overnight camps that run from a few days to a few weeks in scenic outdoor areas that span from New Hampshire to Hawaii. The Y camp in our area is the Triangle Y Ranch and they offer camp programs with a wide variety of outdoor adventures led by trained and experienced leaders who guide children and teenagers in having an unforgettable experience.  Expect new and fun activities that will not only build skills, but great new friends and character values for life.

Every child that comes to the YMCA of Southern Arizona’s Triangle Y Ranch leaves with a great experience that will impact their life for years to come. The staff is trained and the programs are structured in line with four core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. The Triangle Y Ranch also offers specialty and leadership camps in addition to traditional overnight camp experiences.   These programs were introduced to meet the needs of campers at any age. The Y concept of Progressive Camping is to provide safe, fun, and exciting age-appropriate activities that help develop skills and confidence.  The Triangle Y Ranch motto “We are born not for ourselves, but to help others” is the foundation of the camp model.  The camp is a fully accredited member of the American Camp Association and is a hallmark of the Tucson community as is the Y’s principles of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.  More information can be found at the YMCA of Southern Arizona’s web site, www.TucsonYMCA.org.
