Bright Beginnings Child Care

4225 W. Ina Road

Open 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Provides transportation to and from Thornydale, Degrazia, Ironwood, Quail Run, Richardson, Hendricks and Butterfield elementary schools. Offers infant, toddler and pre-kindergarten programs, as well as a second- through fifth-grade program with homework time, cooking and arts and crafts. For ages 6 weeks through 12 years. Cost for the before- and after-school programs is $55 a week. 744-1341.

Child Time Children's Centers

7090 N. Thornydale Road

Open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Provides before- and after-school programs with transportation to and from Lulu Walker, Ironwood, Degrazia, Quail Run, Thornydale, Butterfield, Donaldson, Richardson, Twin Peaks, Coyote Trail and Hendricks elementary schools. For infants through 12 years. Cost for the before- and after-school program is $85 a week, or $115 for before and after kindergarten. Children may use computers, play outside and make arts and crafts. 744-9500.

Children's World

7277 N. Oldfather Road and 10455 N. La Cañada Drive

Open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Oldfather location provides transportation to and from Quail Run, Thornydale and Degrazia elementary schools and Carden of Tucson, and, if there is a high demand, Twin Peaks and Coyote Trail elementary schools. La Cañada location provides transportation to and from Copper Creek, Wilson, Ironwood, Mesa Verde and Painted Sky elementary schools. Provides science, cooking and art activities. For up to age 12. Cost for before- and after-kindergarten program for five days is $119, with a registration fee of $75 for one child and $100 for a family. Discovery Learning Center

8251 N. Thornydale Road

Open 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Provides transportation to and from Butterfield, Quail Run, Ironwood, Thornydale and Degrazia elementary schools. Offers arts and crafts, story time and homework time. For ages 1 through 11. Costs vary; generally $115 before and after kindergarten and $75 before and after first through third grade. 744-3919.

Kids Ville

4055 N. First Ave.

Open 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Provides transportation to and from the Amphitheater and Flowing Wells school districts. Children may participate in after-school games and homework time. For infants through age 12. Costs are $22.50 for a full day and $19.50 for a half day for up through age 3, and $21.50 for full day and $18.50 for half day for ages 4 through 12. 888-4070.

Kindercare Learning Center

7251 N. Merideth Blvd.

Open 6:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Provides transportation to and from Richardson, Ironwood, Butterfield and Thoryndale elementary schools. The center features weekly themes for kids, including cooking and science, homework, outdoor time, snacks and a hooked on phonics program for ages 3 and up. For 6 weeks through age 12. Costs are $81 a week for before- and after-school children and $134 a week for children in the before- and after-kindergarten program. 744-4550.

Ms. Sarah's Romper Room

15450 N. Oracle Road (Catalina)

Open 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Provides transportation to and from Coronado Elementary School. Offers art, science, and computer and language activities. For ages 1 through 12. Cost for school-age children is $50 a week for before- and after-school program. Care for ages 1 and 2 is $100 a week, and care for ages 2 and older is $80 a week. 825-7635.

Pusch Ridge Preschool

10361 N. Oracle Road

Open 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Provides transportation to and from various elementary schools. Offers an after-school program for ages 6 through 11, preschool for ages 3 and 4 and kindergarten for age 5. Open for ages six weeks through age 11. Before- and after-school programs are offered in five-day programs, three-day programs, two-day programs and early out programs. Costs vary depending on age and program. Schools & Programs

Community Extensions Program

Offers Play and Learn and after-school activities program at all of the Amphi elementary schools except Nash, Keeling and Prince for kindergarten through age 12. Times vary from school to school, generally about 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the school year, Monday through Friday. Offers arts and crafts, cooking, theme-based activities, homework time, structured kindergarten programs and outdoor activities. Attendees need to fill out registration forms and show proof of immunization records. Early registration is highly recommended. Call for registration information. 888-2727, ext. 204.

Gymboree

215 W. Giaconda Way

For infants through age 5. Open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Saturday with open gym, 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Lemonade Kids for age 4 and 5 from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Tuesdays. Gym art for ages 4 and 5 from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Mondays. Offers 45-minute mobile classes for parents and children together, special classes for siblings and music programs. Costs include a $25 lifetime membership fee plus $12 a class. 721-7722.

Marana Unified School District

The Learning Enrichment And Play program is offered for children ages 5 through 12 at Coyote Trails, Desert Winds, Butterfield, Quail Run, Twin Peaks, Ironwood, Thornydale, Roadrunner and DeGrazia elementary schools from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Children may participate in homework time, study time, academic enrichment activities, computer education and playground activities. Preschool is available for ages 3 and 4 at Roadrunner Elementary School. Cost is $2.30 an hour with a 20 percent discount for the second child and a 10 percent discount for the third child, plus a $40 registration fee. The cost is $42 a week for part time, which is 7 to 11:45 a.m. and $92 a week for full-time preschool, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registrants must fill out forms and show immunization records. Pima County Parks and Recreation

Offers various activities for children ages 5 through 12 who are enrolled in elementary school. The Teach Our Toddlers Skills (TOTS) program is available for ages 3 through 5 at the Catalina Recreation Center and Continental Ranch Community Center. Sports, arts and crafts, games, homework help, reading programs and special events are offered at the Catalina Recreation Center, Picture Rocks Community Center and Rillito Vista Community Center. St. Mark's Early Childhood Center

Open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Offers day care, preschool and kindergarten, with structured activities such as arts and crafts, music and story time. For ages 1 through 6. Costs vary according to age group. Preschool is available for ages 3 and 4. Kindergarten runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 797-2925.

Centre Stage Dance Studio

Offers ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop dance classes for ages 3 through adult. Class times and costs vary. 498-0093.

Creative Dance Arts

Offers training in classical ballet, jazz, hip hop, modern, tap, flamenco and Irish dance to children in preschool, kindergarten and elementary school, for beginning through advanced skill levels. Costs vary depending on classes.

Music Academy of Tucson

The academy provides instruction in piano, voice, strings, woodwinds, percussion, Kindermusik, orff, and theory for all ages and abilities through group classes and individual lessons. The academy, which has more than 20 instructors, is holding an open House at 11 a.m. Aug. 27. Costs vary. 327-2303.

Athletics programs

Arizona Youth Soccer Organization

Region 206 covers all of Marana Unified School District. Cost is $55 a child with a maximum fee of $165 a family. Season begins in September. New players need to bring birth certificates. 869-7103.

Pima County Junior Soccer League

About 20 clubs within the Pima County Area. Clubs include Avra/Marana, Cactus, Calcio, CDO, Continental Ranch, Foothills Futbol Club, Ft. Lowell, Freedom, Tucson Mt. Park, Palo Verde, Pantano, Randolph, Sabino Vista, St. Francis, Tanque Verde, Tucson Aztecs, Tucson Soccer Academy, Tucson United, and the Sierra Vista Soccer Club. Practices and costs vary depending on the team. Call for dates of yearly session. Players must provide their own shoes and shin guards. 440-5259.

American Youth Football and Cheer

Starts in August and goes through December. Practices held throughout Tucson. Call for individual teams and locations. Practices run Monday through Friday and three days a week after Labor Day. Games are held on Saturday. Ages 5 and 6 play flag football, and ages 7 through 15 play tackle. Cheerleaders can participate at ages 5 through 15. Costs vary. 322-9779.

YMCA

Sports costs range from $35 to $45, with an additional $15 fee for first time registration. Sports available include Itty Bitty Sports (ages 3 through 4), T-ball (ages 4 through 5), Coaches Pitch (ages 6 through 8), Pee Wee basketball (ages 4 through 5), Youth basketball (ages 6 through 14), Girls' three on three basketball (ages 6 through 14), NFL Flag Football (ages 6 through 14), soccer (ages 4 through 8) and karate (ages 4 through adults). 229-9001.

Learning Lab

For ages 5 through adult. 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Options available. Registration is ongoing. Individualized instructional programs in reading, math, English, algebra, geometry, calculus, chemistry, physics, foreign languages, study skills, SAT-I and ACT prep classes and accelerated gifted programs. The Tutoring Club, 1555 E. River Road, Suite 101. The club is a skill-based tutoring service for students in elementary through high school. Subjects include reading, math (basic through calculus), writing, study skills and SAT preparation. Various times. 299-8899.

Homework Help, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Aug. 2 through Dec. 9 at the Oro Valley Public Library, 1305 W. Naranja Drive. Students in elementary, middle and high school receive tutoring in various school subjects. Free. 229-5300.

Homework Help, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. every Thursday at the Marlyn Mae Gaesa Marana Branch Library, 13370 N. Lon Adams Road. The tutor focuses primarily on helping students in first through fourth grades, but also helps high school and college students if they request. Free. 682-4216.

One-on-one tutoring, various times with a private tutor in Oro Valley. Students in elementary through high school receive assistance with English, math, social studies and science from a retired teacher with masters degrees in education and psychology. $40 per hour. 297-0071.
