June 28, 2006 - After last year's relocation of its Fourth of July Celebration, the Greater Oro Valley Arts Council will move the event back to its old stomping grounds.

The celebration begins at 5 p.m. at Cañada del Oro Riverfront Park, 551 W. Lambert Lane.

The Tucson Symphony Orchestra will play patriotic and popular classical music and conclude with the 1812 Overture as the night sky lights up with fireworks from the Hilton El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort

Albert George-Schram will guest conduct the orchestra.

The Civic Orchestra of Tucson even will let children handle various instruments.

The civic orchestra is a 60-piece volunteer community orchestra founded in 1975 that provides free symphonic concerts.

The group holds most performances at facilities easily accessible to the elderly and physically challenged and features elementary, high school and college students as guest artists.

Starting at 5:15 p.m., children can visit the orchestra's "musical petting zoo" and various play games.

Visitors may bring picnic blankets and alcohol-free beverages and purchase a variety of food and drinks from vendors at the park.

Attendees are asked to bring one non-perishable food item per adult.

Parking costs $1 at the park, however, the town of Oro Valley will provide bus transportation starting at 5 p.m. from the Home Depot, 10855 N. Oracle Road, and Casas Church, 10801 N. La Cholla Blvd.

The arts council moved its event last year to Canyon Del Oro High School because parking spaces at Riverfront Park were blocked during bridge construction from Lambert Lane to Pusch View Lane.

Organizers recommend visitors arrive as early as possible because the event typically draws thousands of people.

No smoking or alcoholic beverages are allowed.

The Hilton El Conquistador, 10000 N. Oracle Road, will present a separate Fourth of July Celebration that features live music by Jason Mraz and Mat Kearney, prizes and food.

Visitors can buy hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy, ice cream, barbecue beef and snow cones, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

The activities, which also include a jumping castle, volleyball tournament, carnival-style games, a hole-in-one competition and hot dog- and apple pie-eating contests, will begin at 5 p.m. Tickets cost $15 for adults, $8 for children 6 through 12 and free for children 5 and younger. Parking costs $5.
