The Marana baseball team lost a heartbreaking pitcher’s duel on Thursday afternoon, falling 1-0 to Sabino.

The Sabercats scored a lone run off of Nicholas Tinsley in the top of the first inning and then made the lead hold up over seven innings. Matt Bushman, a senior who will play football at BYU next season, singled home Zach Gadway for that lone run.

Tinsley held Sabino to just five hits but took the loss because Sabino’s Micah Scholes and Caden Simpson to surrender just three hits on his way to the win. Simpson, who earned the save, actually no-hit the Tigers over the final three innings.

The loss hurts the Tigers, who slipped to No. 32 in the Division II state ranking Thursday morning and have lost both of their games so far this week, but still have Tucson High on Friday.
