The Pusch Ridge softball team fell behind early, but got a walk-off extra innings win over St. Johns in the first round of the Division IV State Playoffs.
St. Johns stormed out with four runs in the first inning, but Pusch Ridge slowly came back, scoring a lone run in the second and tying things up with a three-run third inning.
The Lions did not keep the momentum long, as St. Johns added three of their own in the top of the fourth.
It was 9-6 heading into the sixth, but the Lions tied it up with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, and forced extra innings and finally won the game on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth.
Kailey Rohne drove in three runs, while Lexi Frithsen scored three times. Freshman pitcher Ashley Perdue got the win, pitching 5.2 innings in relief, the final three without a run.
All told the Lions pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of seven Pusch Ridge errors. Pusch Ridge will return to the Rose Mofford Softball Complex in Phoenix on Friday with a game against No. 3 Veritas Prep.
